Donna williams event is a great success

On Friday the 19th of September Sefton Parent Partnership hosted the talk held by Donna Williams at Aintree racecourse. Parents, carers and professionals, all hoping to get a deeper insight into what it is like to have Autism, visited the Event.

Donna, herself diagnosed with Autism in her 20's, talked about what is was like to grow up in the 60's and 70's having the condition. Her talk, "Autism as a fruit salad" touched on the impact parents, environment, character and foods make on living with autism. Feedback received on the night was 100% positive. One parent said: "I feel too overwhelmed to say properly how I feel, This was possibly the best and most informed insight into our child and ourselves that we could have had". A professional that attended the meeting wrote: "I thought it was fascinating and explained some of my experiences as a professional who looks after people with Autism".

Parents Finish Course and receive Award

On Friday the 14th of March parents who had attended the Autism parent's programme were awarded with certificates of attendence. All the parents were rewarded with a nice lunch, courtesy of the course trainers Bev Fisher and Claire Fenner. The certificates where handed out by Colin Oxley,  Assistant Director (Inclusion), and the event was reported on by the Formby Times newspaper.

Parent Consultation Great Success

Parent Partnership hosted the first Sefton parent consultation event in bootle town hall on the 13th of March 2008. The day was a great success with a great turn out of parents and carers who took the opportunity to give their views on the future of services. On the day 6 subjects, relevant to the way services in Sefton are shaped, were discussed by parents. All the comments made were handed over to Colin Oxley, Assistant Director (Inclusion) to be used in future development. “What a great opportunity for parents (and carers) to have their voices heard” was one of the comments made by an attending parent, which was echoed by many. A big thank you to all the facilitators for all the hard work put in to make this day a great success
